Akyaka Villa Rental

Akyaka is small and unusually well preserved: building is regulated to a local wooden style with carved balconies and overhanging eaves, and the surrounding area is a protected zone. The Azmak river runs cold and clear into the sea through reed beds, and the Gulf of Gökova behind it produces reliable afternoon wind that has made the village a kitesurfing destination. Pine forest comes right down to the shoreline. It is a village rather than a resort — you can walk it in twenty minutes.

Village centre

Walking distance to the beach, the river and the restaurants. Villas are modest in size but you will not need a car.

Above the village

Hillside plots with gulf views and cooler evenings, a few minutes' drive down.

Gökova side

Quieter properties along the road towards Gökova, with larger gardens and more privacy.

When to go

May to October. The afternoon wind keeps summer comfortable and is the reason the kitesurfing season runs June to September. Spring and autumn are green and mild; winter is wet and most businesses run at reduced hours.

Getting there

Dalaman (DLM) is about 1 hour 20 minutes; Bodrum (BJV) around 1 hour 45 minutes. Akyaka is just off the main Muğla–Marmaris road, so it is one of the easier villages to reach.

Local tips

Take a flat-bottomed boat up the Azmak river — the water is spring-fed and startlingly clear.
The beach is Blue Flag and backed by forest, with shade available, which is rare on this coast.
Wind picks up reliably after 13:00; plan flat-water swimming for the morning.
Nearby Gökova and Çınar villages have good local restaurants away from the village centre.
